Easy to Clean Flooring Opriton for Cafe

The tile chosen for the restaurant kitchen is typically a more durable and less expensive tile referred to as quarry tile. This quarry tile can stand up to the heavy traffic and demanding environment that exists in the commercial kitchen, but these floors are notoriously greasy and slick. Today I want to discuss the best way to clean kitchen floors, a treatment option to make kitchen floors non skid, and how to mop a floor to maintain non slip floors in your kitchen.

The process of treating your slippery restaurant kitchen floor can be broken down into three stages:

  1. Sweep the floor.
  2. Emulsify the grease layers to remove the grease from the tile surface with our anti slip cleaner degreaser.
  3. Treat the quarry tile with our anti slip tile treatment to increase the coefficient of friction.

This process can be completed within a few minutes and with a proper maintenance program, the floor will remain slip resistant forever. Let's get into more detail on steps 2 and 3, and then we'll go over a simple maintenance program that won't take any more time than your current process of mopping the floors each night.

Emulsifying the grease layer:

The grease buildup on slippery restaurant kitchen floors must be emulsified in order to be completely removed from the tile surface. Emulsification is the process of distributing a solid (in this case the grease) throughout a liquid (in this case the Cleaner/Degreaser). We offer a Hard Surface Cleaner/Degreaser that will emulsify your grease layers. Follow these steps to complete the emulsification process:

  1. Fill a mop bucket with 2 gallons of warm water and mix in 12 oz. of our Hard Surface Cleaner/Degreaser.
  2. Using a clean mop, spread the mixture over the floor. Two gallons should cover 500 sq. ft.
  3. Using a stiff bristle brush, agitate the mixture on the floor over the entire treatment area.
  4. Continue to lightly agitate the treatment area for 15 minutes to keep the entire area wet.
  5. Rinse the mixture with extremely hot water either down the drain, or using a clean mop.

The floor should be noticeably cleaner and less greasy. However, in extreme situations, repeating the process may be necessary to totally remove the grease layers. In order to move on to the next step in the process you must remove all grease from the floor; so, if you feel that another treatment might be needed, take the time to clean it properly!

Treating the quarry tile surface:

The next step is to treat the surface of the kitchen floor tile to make it into non slip tile. Slip Zero - Level 3 is specifically designed for treating the tough quarry tile used in restaurant kitchen floors. The treatment process creates microscopic pores in the surface of the tile that cannot be seen by the naked eye, and the non skid tile will last for decades. Slip Zero ships with neutralizer and complete instructions.

Maintaining your non slip restaurant kitchen floors:

Once the floor has been treated, it is imperative that the grease layer is removed regularly. Follow these two steps to maintain your non-slip kitchen floors forever:

  1. Each night mop with 2 gallons of water mixed with 12 oz. of our Cleaner/Degreaser using a clean mop. Allow the mixture to remain on the floor for 10 minutes and rinse down the drain, or clean up with the mop.
  2. Each week repeat the emulsification process using the same concentration as mentioned above and using the stiff bristle brush to agitate the mixture.

Proper maintenance will eliminate the dangerous slippery restaurant kitchen floor forever once the tile is treated. If you have any questions about the process or our products, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or at 1-800-741-4024.

Thanks, and good luck!
